Pocono Outdoor Art – Amazing Tree Creations

in Poconos Finest

Just a short 10 mile drive north on route 402 from Marshalls Creek is a must see site to be seen in the Pocono Mountains. This destination is something you just don’t get to see very often and it is just great. Be sure to visit and see a few tree creations by Jim Rourke, one of the true craftsmen of the Poconos.

It is just amazing how a guy with a chainsaw can turn a tree trunk or log into any sort of wonderful creation of your choosing.  Jim Rourke began his tree creations in 1988 and has since accumulated a photo pictorial of his work along great display of chainsaw carvings to set your eyes upon while you visit. Seeing all the carvings is well worth the short drive and makes a great stop to add to your Pocono trip list.  Many of the chainsaw tree creations are for sale and Jim is available for custom creations should you have a specific request in mind. Chainsaw carvings make great additions to gardens, wooded parcels and even make excellent gifts for certain outdoorsy friends.

P1020363I recently visited Jim at a work site where he had been commissioned to provide some carvings to a massive 10′ high tree stump. He gave me a quick tour of the carvings he had already done and was just about ready to carve one more animal into this tree and call it a job well done. I was sure to get a few pictures while there just because Jim’s tree creations were so unique.

As you approach the tree you gander upon a lazy bear and ask yourself if that raccoon knows we can still see him. Another step around the tree and you find that the bear in the front is actually through the tree, maybe he is stuck in the tree, if it’s a he.

As we stepped around this huge tree, Jim showed me yet a few more animal creations on this tree which included a soaring eagle, a squirrel and a great blue herring holding a fish. It was certainly a treat to look at these, it just blows me away that someone can create things like this with a chainsaw.P1020357

Jim Rourke’s website TreeCreations.com, has more photos of some previous work as well as provides many more details about the TreeCreations Jim carves with a chainsaw. Feel free to visit TreeCreations.com for more info and if you get to see these sculptures in person, be sure and tell them you found out about them by reading this1is4u.

Hi Jim,
I made one hawk so far, a few mistakes but a lot of fun. I was wondering if you could tell me the best way to get a good size log, and a good book on how to carve realistic
animals. I have been painting on canvas for about ten years so I can bring that to this new art, it really made my hawk come to life.
Thank you for your time, your brother in Christ, John
